Overview

Neruð is described as beautiful but terrible to behold, with flowing golden hair but eyes of emptiness, like a starless sky. Her right hand, lost in the Godswar, has been replaced by one of black metal, which she can also reshape at will into any cruel form she desires. Both her legs are badly crippled, so she spends most of her time on a throne of gold and black onyx.

She dwells in the lifeless realm of Ažgar, in a fortress of drab gray stone. It is a place of constant chaos, as she shifts the walls and floors around her to not only to her liking, but to move where she wishes to go. Her servants are the wraiths of those who died in her service, as well as any of the lesser gods and demigods who swore fealty.

While powerful, Neruð is constrained to her own realm, biding her time until she is powerful enough to once again challenge the Upper Gods. She intends to be certain of success on this second attempt, though victory over the gods is only another step to her final goal: To destroy all of Jord, and remake it to match her own ideals. She no longer seeks the approval of Adinn, only the peace of having created a perfect world.

She is obsessed with perfection, repeatedly changing her own fortress at the smallest inefficiency. Her servants' mistakes are punished severely, and she demands obedience without question. Her own damaged body drives a constant cycle of rage against her own failures and the actions of the gods. Should she finally have her wish of remaking the world, it is likely that she will subject it to the same endless turmoil.

Neruð's most well-known motif is that of endings. The name itself is translated "the end's beginning", or "the end's dawn" (reflecting her former status as goddess of dawn). In contrast to doctrines of annihilation or total chaos, hers is the promise that the imperfect world will be remade anew.
