The World

This universe is a gift from the divine, every star placed with care. Let us cherish our brief lives within it, though they be scarce moments in an eternity, and treat it as one would a priceless heirloom; An inheritance we pass to each new generation, through every coming age.

The Shatterlands are located on a massive world somewhat like our own. The outer reaches of the lands are surrounded by oceans. Beyond that is the unknown, and further still, the Void.

The world is named for its fractured surface. In ancient times, the known world was part a single, massive continent. Societies flourished in relative peace, until a cataclysm called the Great Shattering struck the continent. At its center, the entire civilization of Al Athnar was obliterated, and the land around it cracked into countless pieces which drifted into the vast ocean. The largest segment remained close to its original place, and came to be known as the Midlands.

One of the most notable tales of the upheaval was the Exodus of Dru, when the Dranning people fled from the impending disaster, and settled in what would become the Midlands.

Another, less spectacular result was the breaking open of the Underrealm, allowing some of its inhabitants into the Overrealm, and vice versa.
